The United Arab Emirates-Pakistan Assistance Program (UAE-PAP) has been working on more than 100 large scale projects in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, a high official of United Arab Emirates told the media in Islamabad on Sunday. He further added that the organization had been mainly focusing on education and health care sectors during the third phase of its program.
UAE assistance program Pakistan official Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Al-Zaabi said that, “Last year in May, we signed a $200 million cooperation contract to implement Phase III of the UAE-PAP. That was for more than 100 large scale projects in Balochistan and KPK focusing on education and health care sectors.”
The Ambassador said one of the important projects of UAE-PAP was to remove polio in Pakistan, however, there had also been several other programs to enhance the country’s water and agriculture sectors.
He further said that UAE’s charity organizations, such as Sheikh Muhammad bin Rashid, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed, and Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan foundations, had been also handling several projects in Pakistan. “The Sheikh Muhammad bin Rashid Foundation has constructed many schools and hospitals in small villages of Muzaffarabad. I always name it long-established relations between the UAE and Pakistan because the leaders of the two countries have the same thoughts of looking to the future.”
Al-Zaabi said his directives required him to find new areas where both countries will be able to work together, identify funding opportunities for entrepreneurs in his country, and encourage business people in Pakistan who wanted to benefit from the UAE market.
He further said that special focus has also been placed on improving visa facilities in Karachi and Islamabad to help labourers of Pakistan who had been finding work in his country.
Al-Zaabi was conferred upon the “UAE Medal of Pride” for improving bilateral relations between Abu Dhabi and Islamabad by creating new partnerships and strengthening the scope of economic and trade cooperation in all sectors of similar interests between both the countries
