Pakistan’s Mobile Imports fall by 11%

  • Pakistan imported mobile phones worth $755 million
  • Imposition of Custom Duties and Taxes led to a decline in Imports

Pakistan imported mobile phones of around $755 million during July-2018 to June-2019 period compared $847million during July-June 2017-18 period, marking a decline of 10.87%, as per latest data from Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

The month of June witnessed the largest decline where Mobile imports stood at $57 million as compared to imports of $87 million in June-2018 marking 34% decline.

The decline in Mobile Imports come amid imposition of increased Custom Duties and Taxes on Mobile Imports. During the year Government imposed a regulatory duty in flat rates for 6 various slabs according to mobile phones’  import value.

Moreover, People bringing Mobile Phones from abroad have to declare the Mobile Phone at the Airport and pay taxes there. This step from the government has significantly increased the collection of duties on Mobile phones and have resulted in lower imports of the same.
