After becoming most popular name in United Kingdom, “Muhammad” has been included for the first time into the USA’s Top 10 list of most popular baby boy names of compiled by “BabyCentre”. Baby Centre is the top parenting website of USA.
A press Release by Linda Murray global editor in chief of BabyCentre mentions that “The name ‘Muhammad’ has been rising on BabyCenter top baby name lists around the world, so we knew it would soon break into the U.S. top 10”.
The name ‘Muhammad’ was the 10th most popular name in the list. BabyCenter highlighted that its data comes from around 600,000 parents who shared names of their babies with the site in 2019. The name Muhammad also includes various spelling variations of the name like ‘Mohammad’ and others.
The rise in popularity of name ‘Muhammad’ is also documented by the US Government. The Social Security Administration (SSA) department of US Government, collects data based on births in the United States for Social Security card applications. According to SSA, Muhammad was ranked No. 620 in 2000, but increased up to No. 345 in 2018 and still rising. SSA hasn’t published data for 2019 and it doesn’t account for alternate spellings of ‘Muhammad’.
Previously, BabyCentre published the list of most popular names in United Kingdom, placing name ‘Muhammad’ at the top for third consecutive year.
