The Economic, Intelligence Uni has issued The Global Liveability Index 2019, where Karachi has been placed at 136th on the list out of 140 cities making it the fifth least liveable city in the world. Karachi is placed only better than Damascus, Lagos, Dhaka and Tripoli.
The Global Liveability Index compares 140 cities based on different factors like living standards, infrastructure, crime, access to education, healthcare, politico-economic stability. This year Karachi has been placed in Ten Least livable cities. Other cities in Ten least livable cities include Caracas(Venezuela), Algiers(Algeria), Douala (Cameroon), Harare(Zimbabwe) and Port Moresby(Papua New Guinea).
Karachi scored 40.9 out of Total score of 100. While in individual categories Karachi scored 20 for Stability, 45.8 for healthcare, 38.7 for culture and environment, 66.7 for education and 51.8 for infrastructure (all scores out of 100).
Last Year Karachi was placed at 137th position as compared to 136th position this year, marking improvement of one rank in the index.
City of Vienna (Capital of Austria) has been placed at the top of the Economist Intelligence Unit’s Global Liveability Index for 2019, putting its reputation as the world’s most pleasant city for living.
