ECC approves new LNG Terminal, Supply of Oil though Railway

The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet met on Wednesday headed by Dr Hafeez Sheikh. It was decided during the meeting that the Port Qasim Authority (PQA) will be allowed to amend its master plan to include  3rd additional LNG terminal.

Ministry of Maritime Affairs also emphasized on establishment of the third terminal at Port Qasim. Maritime Affairs Minister mentioned the urgency of establishing the terminal keeping in view the expected gas shortage in future.

To speed up the development of LNG Terminal, ECC approved the Port Qasim Authority’s Board Proposition and exempted the Authority from adhering to PPRA Public Tendering Rules for the appointment of the legal consultant via negotiated tendering.

ECC also approved the Port Qasim Authority Board resolution to amend its master plan to include the prospective 3rd LNG Terminal. Previously ECC in its February 2019 decision directed Ministry of Maritime Affairs to expedite work on an additional LNG terminal.

Supply of Oil through Railway

Petroleum Ministry Officials gave a briefing to the Committee about the utilization of Railways services for transporting petroleum products to the upward country from the Port in the South.

In order to diversify the supply Chain of PSO products, the ECC asked the Petroleum Ministry to extend the surplus Oil Supply business to Pakistan Railways which offers lowest freight charges as compared to other Traditional transportation methods.
