137,000 people benefited from the Amnesty Scheme; Rs. 70 billion Tax collected

As per Government Sources, around 137,000 people declared their assets, filed taxes and deposited about Rs. 70 billion in taxes during the Amnesty Scheme period. The amnesty scheme was announced in Late May-19 and ended on 3rd July-2019.

Sources in the FBR and private Tax Consultancies mentioned that a large interest in this amnesty scheme was witnessed mostly from those people who were non-filers or never declared their wealth.

In previous Amnesty Scheme which was offered in 2018, 83,000 citizens availed domestic and offshore tax amnesty schemes and these citizens also paid around Rs124 billion in taxes.

Benami Law put into place

The Government and Enforcement agencies have started taking actions under the Benami Act 2017. The tax officials in Islamabad have issued six orders to PML-N Senator Chaudhry Tanveer for attachment of benami property in the range of 6,000 kanals of land. The property is attached for 90 days and the case has now been referred to the higher authority.

Likewise eight orders were issued for the attachment of property in Karachi, mostly in Omni Group cases where the accused is Ex-President Asif Ali Zardari. The property is attached for 90 days and the case has now been referred to the higher authority.

The above mentioned cases are under NAB investigation.
